Flathead County Trails Plan: Important Hearing and Your Chance to be Heard

Many of you are already aware of or are involved with the PATHS2 and the Flathead County 2018 Trails Plan. The Flathead Trails Alliance(FTA) grew out of this planning effort and the desire to have a comprehensive and forward looking plan for growing trails and connectivity in Flathead County.

It will be your chance to again call for this, in contrast to a less comprehensive and almost solely maintenance base plan put forward by the Flathead County Parks Board.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 11th, at 6:00, in the conference room of the South campus building, 40 11th Street West, Kalispell, the Flathead County Planning Board will have a public hearing to process the Trails Plan as an element of the Flathead County Growth Policy.

The link to the meeting notice is here.

The FTA is calling for all trails and active transportation advocates, your friends, neighbors, and anyone that wants a real plan for the future to show up and ask the planning board to support PATHS2. Last fall, advocates did just that at a Park Board meeting and despite overwhelming support for a plan two years in making, the PATHS2 plan was passed over.

Here are links to both plans as well as minutes from the FTA’s last meeting minutes and a summary of FTA purpose, goals and anticipated activities:

If you aren’t part of FTA, consider joining their effort to form a solid trails and shared path association in your community. This is exactly what all our communities need and we look forward to supporting and collaborating with FTA!!
